This event happened in Rome Italy in 1992. I was a medical student living in Monte Sacro (Northern part of Rome). My room-mate and I were studying late for exams, and he suggested that we go to the bar (coffee shop) for a coffee. It was about 8:30 PM when we walked up the street. After a few minutes I noticed that there were low lying thick clouds just above the buildings in the area. I had on a light sweat shirt, and thought it was strange that the air was not damp. In fact it felt a little cool and dry. We had our capucinos and started to walk back to the apartment. While talking about what we were studying, I had this impulse to look straight up. When I did so I saw a dim white round light in the clouds right above me. This light was moving at my pace. I stopped and the light stopped. I kept staring at this light for about 10 seconds. My friend just kept talking about his Pathology exam comming up. I finally said "What the hell is that." After saying that the light started moving ahead of me down the street. As it did so it created some minor turbulence in the clouds, and I could bearly see parts of its underbelly. This object took about 20 seconds to clear me. The bottom was a dark silver with multiple contures. The object was silent and did no make any noticable change in the air around me. In fact when I said "what the hell is that" my friend looked up at a street light and said "oh thats just a bat". Afew minutes later I said to him "Man you have no idea what you just missed." That incident absolutely stunned me. How could something that large hover directly above me and my friend and neither one of us feel or heard anything. I also can't understand what made me look up like I did. Thinking back on that night I remember that the clouds did look more smoky or stringy than normal clouds. I have never heard of a UFO sighting were the object purposely formed a "cloud covering" to get close to humans. I told several students the next day, and they all thought I had a bottle of bad wine that night.
