String of mysterious ‘booming noises’ reported across several U.S. states
December 10, 2012 – ARIZONA – Jean Swesey was doing homework with her son in Cottonwood when it happened. “It was a whole series of booms,” Swesey said. “Up to six or seven. It was fast, it went loud. We were quiet and then my daughter down the hall screams really loud, ‘Did you hear that?’ I sat there for a second and I heard another set.” Swesey wasn’t alone. Residents in communities in and around Verde Valley and as far as Flagstaff called 911 or their police and fire departments to report the strange booming sounds. “It sounded like thunder, but underground,” Swesey said. “Like muffled thunder. And all the dogs in the neighborhood, all of them that were outside all started barking at once.” CBS 5 News first received reports of the explosion-like noises shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday and began checking with law enforcement and government sources. The U.S. Geological Survey reports no significant earthquake activity in Arizona that could have created the booms. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office had deputies in the area that either heard it or tried to respond to resident calls. They found nothing. The Sedona Fire District dispatched a crew to check a report of a strange odor, but that was unfounded and may not be related to the sounds. The Camp Verde Marshal also received a number of phone calls about the booms. Officers found no evidence of any explosions. But the Verde Valley contains large expanses of uninhabited land. “Maybe when the light comes back they’ll find something,” said Gary Johnson of Sedona Fire. Sources from the Warwick Police Department said they received nearly 100 phone calls reporting a loud noise that some thought was an explosion. Some residents called to say it shook their homes. On the other side of Narragansett Bay in Barrington, residents also reported the noise, and a few said a flash of light accompanied it. The calls prompted an initial police and fire search of the areas, and then marine crews took to the waters between Conimicut and Bullocks Point to search for the source of the sound. Senior Chief Jamey Kinney, from the southeast sector of the Unite States Coast Guard, said one of their boats from Castle Hill joined four other local boats to comb Narragansett. Initially, the Coast Guard made calls to T.F. Green to see if they had any missing planes, but the FAA confirmed all was status quo. They also reached out to National Grid to see if any transformers had exploded, but they, too, confirmed all was well. The Coast Guard then tossed around the idea that the noise could have been a vessel in distress, but Kinney said their foray into the waters was more as a precautionary measure. “It’s better to respond earlier,” said Kinney. But there was no vessel, and after combing the waters for an hour and 50 minutes the Coast Guard returned their team to shore empty-handed. To add to the mystery, residents further reported a low, droning, humming noise coming from the water that began about an hour or so after the initial boom was heard, about the same time crews took to the water to comb for a source.. But Kinney said the source of the hum is just as mysterious as whatever caused the initial boom. However, the Coast Guard did determine that the strange flashing light reported in Barrington came from a lighthouse. Locally, reports of the boom came from local neighborhoods like Buttonwoods, Hoxsie, Conimicut, Lakewood, Edgewood, Warwick Neck, Gaspee and Governor Francis Farms. Other media outlets have reported that the noise was heard as far away as Somerset, Mass. Yet, there were still some residents of those communities that missed the boom altogether. Though Kinney said, “strange stuff happens all the time,” he has never heard of mysterious boom like this in this area. Still, according to some reports, this isn’t the first time Rhode Island has dealt with such a mystery. Another loud noise reverberated through the Narragansett Bay area in August 1998 around 9:30 p.m. Yet again, officials could not find the source. Rhode Island isn’t the only place that’s been mystified by such inexplicable noises, since they’re fairly common throughout other areas of the country. In March, residents of Clintonville, a town in Wisconsin, reported a series of mysteries booms night after night. Residents said they were consistently being awoken from their sleep by the sounds. Still, officials had a tricky time pinpointing the source. Finally, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 1.5 magnitude earthquake and said the noises were consistent with the ground’s trembling. ABC, who was among several national news stations to document Clintonville’s strange plight, concluded that the mystery was solved by the USGS diagnosis. Potrebbe essere che centra, non ho fatto attenzione se il periodo delle varie segnalazione dei boom coincide con il giorno che hanno fatto il test e se hanno fatto solo un test oppure piu test.

Comuqnue era il 7 dicembra il test(solo quello conosciuto) più o meno non siamo lontanissimi come giorni...
La notizia dei primi tremori mi pare fosse lo stesso giorno del terremoto in giappone...
Se non ricordo male tempo fa ci fu un fortissimo terremoto in giappone e qualcosa accadde anche in america...
Mi sembra di ricordare questa strana coincidenza...

Kamchatka: 1.200 tonnellate di lava al secondo dal vulcano Tolbachik
Il vulcano Plosky Tolbachik, uno dei più attivi nella penisola del Kamchatka, sta continuando a buttar fuori grandi quantitativi di lava, oltre 1.200 tonnellate al secondo.
L’eruzione è iniziata il 27 novembre sul versante meridionale del vulcano. Ora sono visibili due fontane di lava incandescenti e fiumi di pietre calde che si estendono su una distanza di decine di chilometri. Un punto di osservazione per i ricercatori, così come un cottage turistico sono stati inghiottiti dalla spessa coltre di lava. Molti turisti vogliono andare nella zona per fotografare il fenomeno naturale incredibile. Gli esperti, tuttavia, dicono che è molto pericoloso. I servizi di emergenza sono in allerta e avvertono che è possibile incorrere in gravi ustioni e intossicazioni, dato che la lava raggiunge una temperatura di oltre 1000 gradi Celsius.

Una scossa sismica di magnitudo 3.2 a 7.7km di profondità e’ stata avvertita nella serata dalla popolazione in provincia di Rieti. Le localita’ prossime all’epicentro sono Borbona, Posta e Cittareale. Dalle verifiche effettuate dalla Sala Situazione Italia del Dipartimento della Protezione Civile non risultano danni a persone e/o cose. Secondo i rilievi registrati dall’Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia l’evento sismico e’ stato registrato alle ore 19.13, riferisce la Protezione Civile in una nota.

I riflettori continuano ad essere puntati su questa lunga serie di boati e tremori che vengono avvertiti lungo un asse orizzontale che va dagli Stati Uniti occidentali a quelli Orientali. Vi abbiamo dato la segnalazione di questa notizia già diversi giorni fa, dapprima con il Texas ed in seguito anche con gli altri stati interessati.
Tra questi, compare anche quello relativo alla Georgia, dove in questi ultimi giorni le segnalazioni stanno aumentando a vista d'occhio. Il direttore delle Emergenze dell'ara, Pam Tucker, specifica che sono state "molteplici" le telefonate giunte nel loro dipartimento e che "le segnalazioni continuano tuttora con un intasamento dei centralini che li rende poco utilizzabili".
Lo stesso, aggiunge che "dopo un rapporto e diversi rilievi effettuati dai luoghi di dove arrivano le segnalazioni, non si è riusciti ancora a capire la matrice di questi boati". Molti li segnalano come veri e propri tuoni.

Some point at quarry blasting for the noises, but Tucker says it’s a state law for them to notify her of a scheduled blasting and there wasn’t a demolition around the time the calls started Monday. “We haven’t been able to find anything in the areas where we’re getting the reports from that would really identify, specifically, that it is tannerite being blown up or anything like that,” she added. Si risveglia il vulcano Copahue
Le autorità di Argentina e Cile aumentano il livello di allerta
BUENOS AIRES - Le autorità argentine hanno portato da «giallo» ad «arancione» l'allerta decisa sabato a seguito dell'eruzione del vulcano Copahue, nella provincia patagonica di Neuquen, sulla cordigliera delle Ande alla frontiera col Cile. Anche questo paese ha lanciato un allarme simile.
Gli esperti locali sottolineano che l'attività del Copahue sta aumentando e alcuni abitanti della zona hanno già lasciato le loro case.
Oltre alle autorità argentine, a seguire la situazione ci sono anche gli esperti del Servizio di geologia e minerario del Cile. «Per ora, l'attività del vulcano è evidente soprattutto sul fronte argentino», ha precisato il governatore della regione cilena di Bio Bio, Victor Lobos. «Ci sono importanti rumori sotterranei e l'emissione di gas, nell'ambito di una complessiva attività sismica», ha precisato.
Gli esperti di Santiago ricordano che l'ultima attività significativa del Copahue risale al 1600, anche se - precisano - «il Copahue si attiva all'incirca ogni 400 anni».

L’Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica Americano (USGS) ha registrato, oggi 28 dicembre 2012, un terremoto di 5.5 gradi della Scala Richter in Russia, alle ore 00:42 del 29 dicembre (le 14:42 ora italiana). La scossa è avvenuta in mare e ha avuto un ipocentro di 29 chilometri di profondità. La località più prossima all’epicentro del sisma è Nikol’skoye, distante circa novantuno chilometri. La magnitudo e la profondità del sisma non fanno pensare ad una possibile allerta tsunami. Sempre oggi, un evento sismico è stato registrato in Nuova Zelanda, in mare aperto. Il terremoto ha avuto una magnitudo pari a 5.1 gradi della scala Richter. L’ipocentro è stato calcolato ad una profondità di 9.9 chilometri. La località più prossima all’epicentro del sisma è Raoul Island, distante circa 160 chilometri a Est-Sud-Est.

La scossa è avvenuta sulla costa e le località vicine sono La Serena (38 km) e Coquimbo (43 km). Anche davanti le coste del Guatemala è stato segnalato un terremoto di 4.6 gradi di magnitudo, a 37 chilometri da La Gomera. Infine, un evento sismico di 4.4 gradi Richter è stato registrato in Alaska, vicino la località di Nikolski, distante 56 chilometri dall’epicentro. L’ipocentro risulta poco profondo (solo 7.9 chilometri) ma non dovrebbe aver causato danni.
